drinking pigeon

While we were feeding the eels earlier in the week, I spied this pigeon across
the river taking a drink. I wasn't sure until I googled it.

artwork in NP

When we went to feed the eels, I saw this lovely pigeon portrait
on the pillar wall of the overhead walkway.

The rest of these lovely artwork was found on our way back to the car.

Eely eels

When we were in New Plymouth, Hubby showed me one of his favorite things to do when he had time to kill. We walked down to the Huatoki River alongside Puke Ariki with some raw beef and fed the eels.
These are long fin eels that are only found in New Zealand and are 'in decline.'

WATW and blue skies

I'm looking forward to lots of spring and summer blooms
and enjoying some pretty nice weather.

spring garden

This is how my garden looked a few days ago. It has been raining the last couple
of days, so I'm sure it will look different the next time I get out there!

Train chasing

Today we chased a 1938 vintage ex-NZR Standard railcar that is owned by the Pahiatua Railcar Society. It was certainly fast for being so old!

Tokomaru is a very small town, best known for a Steam Engine museum.

Lake Westmere, Whanganui

On our last trip to Whanganui, we stopped at this little wildlife refuge at
Lake Westmere on Rapanui Road. You can walk all the way around the lake,
about 45 minutes walking, but we just went a little ways down the path.
Hubby found a tui that was too busy eating nectar from the kowhai trees to notice us.

I was trying to get a shot of the reeds in the water, but my
view was mostly obstructed. I think the shots I got are quite
moody and interesting, though.

Mt Taranaki and WATW

It was windy but still beautiful last weekend.

I love finding intricate details in my garden.

Te Rewa Rewa Bridge

This lovely bridge was part of the scenery when Hubby took me for pizza
beside the sea yesterday. Te Rewa Rewa Bridge opened on 2010. Read more here.

A stroll through my spring garden

This morning, between rain showers, I snapped these blooms in the garden.

Besides these lovely colors, I have dahlias breaking through the ground, the cherry trees are budding, lots of seeds are sprouting and a few others weren't open because the sun wasn't out.

I love spring!

Last night's moon

When I stepped outside last night, I was greeted with this sight!
I was doing some research to share with you and found that the
halo is refracted light. According to Universe Today,  it is light refracted
through ice crystals suspended in the upper atmosphere between
five and ten kilometers in altitude.

a few birds

These are some of my favorite shots of birds. Enjoy.

Hubby took this shot.

Wednesday around the World

Some photos make you wonder what the story
is behind it, but I really like this one for some reason.

a south island surpirse

When we were on holiday earlier this year, we followed a sign that said, 'Shag Point' hoping to see...well, some birds on the coastline. To our surprise, we didn't find any shags but we did find a seal colony at Matakaea Reserve!
